Horse Training
Our Program
What We Do:
At The TA Ranch, we take immense pride in the way that we train horses, whether it is a colt or an older horse.
We extend these opportunities to guests who would like to learn more about what it takes to create a lifelong partner.
We truly believe that if you take the time to start a horse or progress their training slowly and correct, you will make it a lot father in the long run.
Whether we are putting the groundwork in on our home raised colts and fillies or putting refined cues on our future guest horses, the foundation is always the same.
Leading with a kind hand and an understanding mind, our corral staff foster an incredible learning environment to every individual horse that steps foot on our ranch.
Starting Colts
The TA Ranch is extremely proud of the home-raised foals that we have on the ranch. They all are foaled from mares that have been an integral part of our program for many years.
When the babies are first born, we work very closely with them and their mothers to form a close bond with them. As they grow, we maintain a steady level of handling and groundwork with each foal to ensure they are set up for success when they get further in their training.
When they get closer to two years old, a designated corral staff member will begin to advance their groundwork and prepare them to begin their work under saddle.
Once it is time to put on a colt’s first ride, it is typically very anticlimactic. Due to spending an extensive amount of time with each individual horse, each colt’s first ride is a very positive and rewarding experience.
Retraining Horses
Each horse at The TA Ranch come from different backgrounds and upbringings. Just like each person that comes to the ranch, each horse is its own being and should be treated as such.
When purchasing horses for our program, we go through a rigorous and meticulous selection process to ensure that each horse that comes here is set up for success from the very first moment.
When each horse arrives at the ranch, they are given a generous amount of time to get acclimated to their new home and pasturemates. Whenever they are ready, the corral staff begin training them with ranch-specific methods that prepare them for the job that they are set up for.
Some horses will be implemented into our guest program, while others were purchased to be our performance prospects. Whatever their future holds, their foundation is always the same.
Our standard of horsemanship is the highest we can possibly achieve, and we hold each member of our staff to that caliber.
Though not every horse is built the same, they all seem to settle right into our programs with little to no trouble. We like to keep it that way.
Advanced Horsemanship
Some of our horses in our program were specifically bred or purchased with the intent to become performance horses. With the high caliber staff and horses that we currently have, we are able to move each horse up levels quickly.
We train many of our horses through Vaquero traditional horsemanship. Our goal for all of our horses is to train them up to their full potential and help them be successful in any discipline that they are in.
Guests will be able to see first-hand what it is like to see true horsemen and horsewomen in action.
